Capernaum House is 18 Transitional Housing units (16 2-bedroom, two 3-bedroom) and 2 permanent supportive 1-bedroom units for homeless as defined under McKinney Vento. If the family has income they pay 30% of income in rent. Each family has a six month lease, renewable up to 24 months maximum, and agrees to participate in our programs that continue the education and life skills building that were begun in the shelter. Two social workers provide case management for our families. They also lead workshops in budgeting, nutrition, time management, self-esteem, positive decision making and other critical personal issues
There are income limits (most units are 30% AMI and up to 4 units can be 50% of AMI). It is Transitional Housing with required participation in programs designed to permanently improve the family's living situation. 2 units actually are permanent housing, however. The term of the lease is 6 months, with a maximum of four consecutive six months leases.
