UCP Residential Services currently provides supports in four Boston area communities including three group homes and several staffed apartments. The newest addition to Residential Services provides supports to seniors with disabilities residing in an assisted living community. This program began as a result of a civil law suit against the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The law suit provided an opportunity for people with disabilities residing in nursing homes to receive therapy, case management and other appropriate services. Thus began the Nursing Home Initiative. During the course of Fiscal Year 2002, UCP helped 11 individuals move from nursing homes into their own apartments with UCP staff to assist them with daily activities.
