This was a vacant, 19-bed nursing home facility in Newton Centre formerly known as Pelham House. Pelham Street will provide ten units of affordable housing, offering six one-bedroom and four studio apartments. In addition to the units there is ample common space in the building and outdoor porches and patios. This shared space offers opportunities for activities, interaction and relationship building, all in an effort to keep seniors engaged and independent. The building, located at 45 Pelham Street, is now rehabbed for seniors. It is centrally located close to shops, businesses, public services and transportation. In walking distance of so much, and on a lovely, tree lined, residential street, the building is ideal for those unable or unwilling to maintain or drive a car. CLN?s Pelham Street is intended for low-income seniors (age 55+). Household income must
not exceed $28,950 for a household of one and $33,100 for a household of two.
Two units and all of the common areas are totally handicapped accessible, except the shower stalls. The units include lowered counters and cabinets, space under counters, and there are no hills from the parking lot to the building. The laundry room and parking are also accessible.
